If your idea of a relaxing night at the movies involves cosmic horror visuals, experimental death metal, and what sounds like a full scale descent into another dimension, Alamo Drafthouse has you covered.
The theater chain has announced a special one night event for ALL GATES OPEN: IN SEARCH OF ABSOLUTE ELSEWHERE on May 20, bringing the immersive audiovisual experience to select locations across the country, including Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.
The event is tied to progressive death metal band Blood Incantation, whose blend of atmospheric sci fi themes, psychedelic visuals, and technical metal has quietly built one of the most devoted fanbases in heavy music over the last several years. Which honestly feels exactly like the kind of thing that would naturally end up at Alamo eventually. This is a company that once turned quote along screenings into an art form.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Blood Incantation to bring something truly cosmic to our theaters,” said Alamo Drafthouse Chief Marketing Officer Chaya Rosenthal. “It’s not every day you get to experience a mind expanding death metal odyssey from the comfort of your theater seat.”
The screening event will play in multiple markets nationwide, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, Boston, Denver, Raleigh, Indianapolis, and several Texas locations including Austin, Dallas Fort Worth, San Antonio, Laredo, and Corpus Christi.
One of the more notable stops happens in Denver at the Sloan’s Lake location, where Blood Incantation themselves will appear in person.
For Austin audiences, the South Lamar screening feels like one of those niche moviegoing experiences that could either become an unforgettable night or leave somebody staring silently at the parking lot afterward trying to process what they just witnessed. Potentially both.
Tickets for the May 20 event are on sale now through Alamo Drafthouse.
