Honoring Texas Film Legends
This year’s ceremony recognized several influential figures whose work continues to define the state’s filmmaking culture.
Artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame for his contributions to cinema and visual storytelling. Schnabel is widely known for directing visually distinctive films such as Basquiat and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, bringing an artist’s perspective to filmmaking.
Actor Sydney Chandler received the Rising Star Award while also being inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. Chandler’s recent performances have quickly placed her among the most promising young actors emerging from Texas connected productions.
Veteran actor Sonny Carl Davis was also inducted into the Hall of Fame, celebrating a career that has spanned decades across film and television, including numerous collaborations with Texas filmmakers.

Celebrating a Texas Cult Classic
One of the night’s most nostalgic moments honored the 25th anniversary of the family adventure film Spy Kids, which received the Star of Texas Award.
Director Robert Rodriguez and producer Elizabeth Avellán were in attendance alongside cast members Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara to celebrate the film’s lasting impact. Since its release in 2001, Spy Kids has remained one of the most recognizable Texas made family franchises and helped cement Rodriguez’s reputation as one of Austin’s most influential filmmakers.
Presenters during the ceremony included Kyle Chandler, Richard Linklater, Gabriel Luna, and Mike Blizzard.
