The parody franchise that once gleefully shredded every horror cliché in sight is officially making a comeback. A new Scary Movie is in the works, bringing the original chaos back to the screen with the same anything goes attitude that made the series a cultural staple in the early 2000s.
Twenty six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the core crew finds themselves back in the crosshairs. Marlon Wayans returns as Shorty, Shawn Wayans is back as Ray, Anna Faris reprises her role as Cindy, and Regina Hall once again steps into the role of Brenda. Together they are pulled into another round of horror movie madness as a killer with an all too familiar mask starts hunting them again.
This new chapter plans to take aim at the modern horror machine that has taken over theaters and streaming platforms. Expect the film to tear through the endless parade of reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin offs, origin stories, and the so called final chapters that somehow never stay final. Nothing is sacred and every trope is fair game.
The franchise built its reputation on pushing every boundary it could find, and this installment looks ready to do the same. Returning favorites will share the screen with a new group of characters as the film barrels through the current wave of “elevated horror,” legacy franchises, and every familiar plot twist audiences have learned to expect.
With the Wayans brothers back in the mix and a new generation of horror movies to parody, the upcoming Scary Movie aims to remind audiences why the franchise became such a phenomenon in the first place. If the premise holds true, the masked killer might be the least dangerous thing on screen.
