For a series that has been quietly lurking in development hell for what feels like forever, Amazon’s Tomb Raider just finally made itself real. The upcoming Prime Video show has revealed its first look at Lara Croft, and suddenly this thing has teeth.
Sophie Turner is stepping into the role this time around, and the initial image makes it clear this is not the gritty reboot Lara we saw in the Alicia Vikander film. This version is pulling straight from the original game era. Green tank top, twin holsters, sunglasses, confident stance. It is unapologetically classic Lara Croft, and honestly, that is exactly what fans have been hoping for.
Phoebe Waller Bridge has been attached to the project since it was announced back in 2023, and her involvement alone already sets expectations dangerously high. She is not exactly known for playing it safe, which makes her a fascinating fit for a franchise built on globe trotting chaos, ancient secrets, and occasional dinosaur related nonsense.
Very little has been revealed about the plot so far, which is probably for the best. What we do know is that the supporting cast includes some serious heavy hitters like Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Paterson Joseph. That lineup suggests this is not being treated like disposable video game content. Amazon seems to be aiming for something that can actually stand on its own as a prestige adventure series.
There is also something kind of poetic about this timing. The original 1996 Tomb Raider is currently being remade for modern consoles, so the franchise as a whole feels like it is in the middle of a full circle moment.
Whether this series adapts classic storylines or creates an entirely new mythology is still a mystery, but one thing is clear. Lara Croft is not just back. She is back with purpose.
And yeah, the pistols are out. As they should be.
